Singing Bowls: 5 ways they can help you

Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls emit a beautiful vibration that relaxes and calms us

Do you know what a singing bowl session or Sound Bath is?

I recently introduced Sound Baths to my clients and many people aren’t really sure what they are. I’ve been asked if I sing with them or they sing with them. The answer to that is No! I don’t think anyone would return if that were the case. Ha ha.

In a singing bowl session everyone comes in and sits on a blanket or yoga mat. I lead everyone in some grounding, calming exercises so that we can calm our brains and thoughts and be in the present moment. Everyone then lays down on their mats and puts a blanket over them to keep them comfortable, if they have one. I have 7 quartz crystal singing bowls in a semi circle in front of me. Each bowl represents a Chakra going from Root to Crown chakra. I strike them with a rubber mallet. The bowl emits a beautiful calming sound. I generally move from the root chakra up to the crown chakra, returning back to the root chakra. As I go from bowl to bowl I generally tell my clients which bowl we are on and say a few affirmations for them to think about as I play. Some people wonder if it’s “woo woo” or “wierd”. Not at all. It’s gentle and relaxing in a powerful way. Anyone from any religious or social background would feel welcome and comfortable at a session.

In the next few paragraphs I’ll give a little overview of what singing bowls are and how they help our brains and bodies.

How do singing bowls work in bringing us peace and relaxation?

Singing bowls produce a beautiful, calming sound that helps to induce a deep state of relaxation and peace. They work by vibrating and producing the harmonic tones of the bowl, which resonate with the body to bring about a sense of balance and serenity. Listening to the sound of a singing bowl can help reduce stress, anxiety, and bring about a sense of wellbeing. The sound vibrations can also help to clear negative energy and promote healing.

How does it promote healing?

When we are in a state of relaxation, our bodies are able to do their job in working to heal us. Our blood pressure is regulated and our brain is calm and more able to do it’s job. Also, many people report being able to sleep better after a Sound Bath. So much amazing healing takes place while we sleep. It’s just an all around great thing for our brains and our bodies..

1. The vibrations from the bowls can help to balance your energy and induce a state of relaxation.

2. They can be used to help focus your thoughts and clear your mind.

3. Listening to the sound of the bowls can bring about a sense of peace and calm.

4. Singing bowls can be used as a tool for self-reflection and self-discovery.

How does going to a singing bowl session translate into real life?

Let me share some examples of my own and examples from my clients. I’ve had many clients who fall into such a deep state of relaxation that they immediately fall asleep and sleep throughout the whole session. Many singing bowl session clients report having the best night’s sleep they’ve had in a long time after a session. After my sessions I invite people to remain laying on their mats for as long as they’d like. Sometimes they stay on their mats for 5 minutes or more. I had one person tell me that she forgot how to relax and coming to a session helped her remember how to relax and how it actually feels to be relaxed.

If you’re stressed out and needing some good relaxation time, I would highly recommend a singing bowl session. It feels so fantastic. It will help you achieve a higher state of relaxation which our bodies and brains so badly need right now.
